Understanding webhook retry and backoff policies

Last updated: June 24, 2025

When a webhook request fails to deliver, our system automatically implements retry logic with exponential backoff. Here's how it works:

Default retry behavior

  • Initial retry attempt: 1 minute after failure

  • Subsequent retries: Exponential backoff with maximum delay of 1 hour

  • Total retry duration: Up to 30 days

Configurable parameters

The following aspects of the retry policy can be customized:

  • Initial retry delay

  • Maximum delay between retries

  • Total retry duration

After the 30-day retry period (or your configured duration) expires, the webhook service will stop attempting to deliver the failed request.
